Sclerotherapy (varicose veins) FAQs
What are varicose veins?
Varicose veins are dilated veins which are caused by improper return of blood to the heart. They appear as bluish lines on the legs. Swelling of the legs and pain accompany the veins.

What is sclerotherapy?
Some varicose veins can be treated with injections of solution to make them disappear by collapsing them. This is usually the tiny, bluish kind of varicose veins ("spider veins"). Sclerotherapy involves a series of injections that are given at weekly intervals. The veins gradually disappear over a six week period. There is a minimal amount of pain accompanying the procedure, which is done in an office setting.
