Lumpectomy - FAQS
The term "lumpectomy" means the removal of a lump from the breast. However, it has come to be associated with cancer surgery for early forms of breast cancer. Lumpectomy is usually done together with the removal of lymph nodes from the armpit on the side of the tumor. Radiation therapy is usually done after the surgery.

How long does the procedure take?
The procedure itself commonly takes sixty to ninety minutes to perform.

How long does the procedure take?
The procedure may take between fifteen and sixty minutes, depending on the method used.

What sort of anesthetic is required?
A general anesthetic is necessary.

Will I be hospitalized?
Many times a one or two day hospital stay is necessary.
